AOM Day - October 24, 2006
October 24 is National Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine
Day.
On and around this day, organizations, schools and
practitioners of acupuncture and various other branches of
Oriental Medicine hold events across the country to educate
the public on the benefits and how-to's of acupuncture and
other related techniques. On this day we celebrate the
advances Oriental Medicine has made in being accepted into
the mainstream of American health care.
Within the past year, acupuncture's growing use has been
featured in lengthy segments on The Today Show, Headline
News, and CNN. The National Institute of Health (NIH)
increased its 2005 budget into complementary and alternative
medicine to more than $ 125 million.
Acupuncture is the topic of conversation a lot lately as
people you know - relatives, neighbors, celebrities - are
finding relief and results in this centuries-old healthcare
system. Each news story on acupuncture brings more calls
with questions about treatments and efficacy. Does it hurt?
Does it work? Does it last?
We invite the public to an Open House to discuss these and
other questions, to sample different styles of Oriental
Medicine treatments and practices, and to learn about the
health benefits this system of healthcare may have to offer
for them.
On ( 2008 date to be determined ) from 2 to 5 p.m. there will be
a Celebration and Open House for Acupuncture and Oriental
Medicine Day, free and open to the public. This event is
co-sponsored by the Maine Association of Acupuncture and
Oriental Medicine (MAAOM) and Full Circle Synergy School of
T'ai Chi Ch'uan, and is held at the studio of Full Circle
Synergy School of T'ai Chi Ch'uan, located at 500 Forest
Ave. in Portland.
There will be FREE sampler classes on T'ai Chi and Qi Gong
by instructors of Full Circle.
T'ai Chi and Qi Gong are Asian styles of "movement
meditation" for self-healing and relaxation, whose benefits
are widely known and accepted.
Licensed Acupuncturists from MAAOM
will provide sample treatments.
There will be informational talks on acupuncture.
Please join us for this event and find out what Oriental
Medicine is all about.
