March 2006    Maine Acupuncture publity event:

MAAOM PROMOTES A STRONG PRESENCE AT
PORTLAND'S WHOLE HEALTH EXPO

Portland, Maine:   Saturday and Sunday, March 4th & March 5th,2006, Portland’s Holiday Inn By The Bay hosted the Whole Health Expo. Practitioners of many complimentary and alternative health care modalities were participants.   A local TV news team shot a film clip our  MAAOM booth which aired on Saturday’s 11 P.M. news. During the course of this two day event, more than one thousand attendees visited the Portland Whole Health Expo. The crowd was warm very interested and in search of help and healing, asking questions about the benefits of receiving Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine treatment.

Thanks to the inspiring work of Tom St.Amand, MAAOM Board member and Promotion and Education Committee Chairman, the MAAOM booth at the Expo was both visual striking and warmly inviting.

More than eight of our 47 MAAOM members participated in manning our booth and it was resounding success.  MAAOM Members who staffed our booth were able to educate the public about the benefits and strengths of Acupuncture and Chinese Herbology, those with more personally oriented questions were able to speak to a Licensed Acupuncturist, one on one in a discussion about what that practitioner could offer in treatment specifically to help that individual.

MAAOM believes Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine needs a strong presence in Maine, representing ourselves with strength and compassion; is very evident through our presence and involvement during this recent Whole Health Expo. We are looking to forward to participating in similar events in the near future.

February 2006

The Today Show ran a story the first week of June 2005 about Americans’ growing use of acupuncture for treatment of chronic pain.  Headline News Network ran a similar story the following week and CNN did a segment on the subject the week after that.  Acupuncture’s the topic of conversation a lot lately as people you know – relatives, neighbors, celebrities – are finding relief and results in this centuries-old healthcare system.

We’re the Maine Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MAAOM), and as acupuncturists we’ve noticed that each news story on acupuncture brings more calls with questions about treatments and efficacy.  Does it hurt?  Does it work? Does it last?

In response to continued public interest we have created our MAAOM Speakers Bureau. We are promoting our MAAOM members throughout our State of Maine who are available to give lectures to groups and answer your questions.  Did you know that Maine acupuncturists must be state licensed and nationally board certified?  How familiar are you with the National Institute of Health’s (NIH) funding of a campus in Maryland (to the tune of $121 million dollars this year) expressly for the study of alternative medicine?  Do you know that treat emotional as well as physical problems? Former university of Maine Hockey star and Mighty Ducks captain Paul Kariay credited acupuncture for recovery from headaches and dizziness that caused him to miss the final 28 games of his 2002 season and the Nagano Olympic Games.  Acupuncture was shaquille O'Neal's self described, "secret weapon," in 2002 when a big toe injury flared up during the NBA playoffs.

We hope that you will consider giving the MAAOM a chance to educate and entertain you at no cost to your school or organization.  We’re certain someone in your audience can use acupuncture and will eventually thank you for inviting us to talk.  Call, write, or check us out at www.maaom.org today for more information on how to bring a speaker to your group or meeting.  Thank you for your time and consideration.  We look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
