Join us in conversation about Community
Acupuncture Settings
MAAOM members, Please
join the discussion exploring the use of group acupuncture
treatment sittings to assist people facing community crisis
and public emergency situations. Mary Chaney and Sandy River
spent time in New Orleans serving the survivors of
Hurricaine Katrine with the Non-Profit organization
Acupuncturists without Borders. Their presentation at the
2006 Annual Meeting has intitiated a conversation about how
Acupuncture can be offered as emergency and public health
assistance in multiple settings as well.
Working in New Orleans
has stimulated the conversation about a desire to set up
local area acupuncturist groups that may be available to
respond to emergencies and to promote group acupuncture
treatment in other community settings where treatment can be
offered to the expanding population of people who do not
have the resources to afford a series of private acupuncture
treatments.
This conversation is at the “visioning” stage and all input
is welcome. Please join the the conversation to hear about
current plans as well as to bring your own ideas.
“I found treating
with other practitioners from different traditions to be one
of the most profound benefits of my trip to New Orleans. We
were there to help those suffering… egos and personalities
weren’t very important. We pulled together and did as much
as we could for as many as we could… and used all the
strengths and skills we found within our group. I learned a
lot from everyone I met… “
Mary Chaney, from her work with AWB.
